Shapescape

Commissioned by Vereniging van Nederlandse Kunsthistorici (Association of Dutch art historians) Daphna Laurens designed the Karel van Mander and Jan van Gelder prize. Yearly the two prizes are being hand out to art historians that are being rewarded for their publication.

The counterclockwise ticking clock represents the historical aspect of their profession, the layers in the ‘landscape’ symbolises the in depth research art historians perform and last but not least the winners are able to compose or bring into shape the prize to meet up to their personal favour.

Based on the design for the VNK prizes Daphna Laurens created shapescape, an abstract landscape made up of shapes. An Oak or Walnut wooden base holds the Brass, Acrylic and Stainless steel shapes. Three slits in the base provide the ability to freely arrange the shapes.
